Moon Lasso
My neighbor caught the moon last night,
with a giant lasso.
He pulled her down and held her tight,
in the jungle canopy.
We all ran across the street
drawn to her light like moths to a flame.
I expected her to be cold, but she felt oddly lukewarm and soothing.
We sat on her, licked her, and rubbed our faces on her smooth and flawless rind.
Then, happily we all bound off.
We watched with delight as he untied the rope and let her be free.
Children, adults, and pets all waved goodbye -
necks strained back,
faces sore from smiling,
she looked down at us sweetly stoic
baring witness to our joy
and floated away as if
it was all
only a dream.
